About Denise

My wonderful husband, Randy and I have two beautiful children. Randy, Adam, and Brittney are my true yogi's. I have been teaching group fitness of all levels since 1980. I have a Bachelors in Kinesiology/Biomechanics and a Masters in Nursing. By day, I work as a Nurse Practitioner/ Registered Nurse. By night, I teach my true passion and share my love of fitness & yoga. I am a Certified Yoga Instructor and have completed numerous teacher trainings with a variety of masters in yoga. I love the ocean! I was inspired to learn to surf at a young age and continue to surf as much as possible. I moved to CA in 1978 from Texas and discovered triathlons. I loved the challenge of the Triathlon. I competed for 5 years but the love of the bike, sent me to racing bicycles exclusively for over 10 years. With my background in Surfing, Triathlons, and years of teaching fitness, I bring a strong, athlethic yet graceful style to yoga.
My greatest influences have been Pattabhi Jois, Tim Miller, Shiva Rea, Doug Swenson, and Erich Schiffman. I am an avid Ashtanga practitioner and respect the core teachings of asana (postures), bandha (core energy locks), pranayama (breath), and meditation (focus/concentration).
My classes are energetic and creative. I strive to integrate the power of the Ashtanga series into my flows to create a fluid wave of movement that allows the student to dance through the practice.
It is important to me that each student feel challenged yet successful in their journey while being guided with praise and support. I encourage all levels and all ages to share my enthusiasm for nature, the ocean, yoga, and complete health.
